Kerala’s Sustainable Tourism Triumphs Globally, Receives Prestigious Award in 2023
In a significant achievement, Kerala, India’s southern paradise, has clinched the prestigious Global Responsible Tourism Award for 2023. This recognition serves as a resounding endorsement of the state’s groundbreaking efforts in sustainable and women-inclusive tourism initiatives, spearheaded by the Responsible Tourism Mission (RTM).
The award, established by the Responsible Tourism Partnership and International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT), was presented in the “Best for Local Sourcing, Food, and Craft” category. Kerala’s RT Mission stood out for its exceptional work in connecting women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with tourism-related activities and effectively promoting indigenous products.
This accolade highlights Kerala’s commitment to responsible tourism and its focus on empowering women entrepreneurs within the industry. Notably, the London-based organizers jointly recognized Kerala’s RTM alongside Eswatini, a landlocked country in Southern Africa known for its eco-friendly Ngwenya Glass.
Kerala’s success on the global stage reaffirms the state’s position as a leader in sustainable tourism and its dedication to fostering inclusive, environmentally conscious practices in the industry.
